Sylvia Winstein Emeriti Arts & Crafts Exhibit
For one day in May, the Sylvia Winstein Emeriti Arts and Crafts Exhibit transforms the University Club's Morrison Room into a gallery of earthly delights. UCLA emeriti, retirees, and their spouses are invited to show their original art works at the exhibit. This event is a high point of the Emeriti year and culminates with a champagne toast.
In 2003 the Emeriti Arts & Crafts Exhibit was renamed the Sylvia Winstein Emeriti Arts & Crafts Exhibit to honor Sylvia's decades-long dedication to this event. Her talent and energy as Chair shaped the art show into a beloved institution.
The 2026 exhibit is sponsored by two UCLA organizations, the Emeriti Association and the Retirees Association. This 48th annual event would not be possible without the generous support of the Sylvia Winstein Fund, the Winstein Family, the UCLA Emeriti Association, and the UCLA Retirees Association as well as contributions from individual donors.

Featured Emeriti Artist's Statement
Born into a family with a strong artistic tradition and guided by my father, Dr. Jui Chang (張 瑞 醫 師) , I began studying Chinese calligraphy at the age of five. In 1961, I continued my training under Professor Shu Tan (譚 淑 教 授), learning seal, clerical, regular, semi-cursive, and cursive scripts.
Over the years, I have participated in numerous exhibitions, received awards, and shared my work through exhibitions, media interviews, and teaching. These experiences have strengthened my skills and deepened my dedication to calligraphy.
Special thanks to my husband, Chih-Ming, my son, Dean, and his family—Sarah Ahn, Ethan, and Emeline—as well as my siblings, for their loving support. With renewed determination, I look forward to devoting even greater passion and effort to promoting the art of calligraphy.— Shirley Ho
Featured Retiree Artist
Craig Schoenbaum, retiree artist's statement and photos of his work, will be published in the Retirees Association’s newsletter, UCLARA Connections.
